GenArt, the arts and entertainment organization dedicated to supporting emerging designers, honored fashion alumni Vena Cava last night with an exclusive event at the Chateau Marmont to celebrate the launch of their Fall Collection at Barneys New York.  Notable attendees such as Malin Akerman, Busy Phillips,  Sophia Bush, Jenny Lewis, Natasha Lyonne, Clea Duvall, Teresa Palmer, Christy Carlson Romano, Nicole Simone, Julia Jones, Annie Monroe, Z-Berg, Bella Heathcote, Phoebe Tonkin, Binki Shapiro, Langley Fox Hemingway, Claiborne Swanson Frank, Brady Schwartzman, Kelly Oxford, and GenArt CEO Marc Lotenberg were on hand to toast designer Sophie Buhai on the new collection.  St. Vincent performed poolside in addition to DJ Tennessee Thomas, founding member and drummer of indie rock ensemble The Like.

Over the years, Vena Cava and many other notable designers, such as Rodarte, Rebecca Taylor and Phillip Lim have participated in GenArt Fresh Faces in Fashion program, which gives emerging talent the opportunity for a runway fashion show.

“GenArt has always been about helping emerging artists take their careers to the next level,” said Marc Lotenberg, CEO of GenArt.  “This year we want to make an effort to connect with those artists and maintain a longterm relationship to ensure continued growth. This event for Vena Cava will be the first of many in which GenArt demonstrates support for, and celebrates the success of our alumni. We look forward to continuously working with these artists and brands interested in aligning with them to build an innovative portfolio of events, activations and digital presence.”

Vena Cava, the designer brand helmed by Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai, were influenced by Noir films of the 40's as well as movies from the 70's, like Chinatown, Taxi Driver, and The Long Goodbye for their Fall/Winter 2012 collection. The duo was inspired by women like Faye Dunaway, Anjelica Houston, and Charlotte Rampling. The collection features both bold and colorful pieces with an emphasis on men’s tailoring; elegant 40's dress shapes, and singular prints.

ABOUT VENA CAVA
Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock, the design duo behind Vena Cava, both moved to New York in 1999 to attend Parsons School of Design. In 2003, three weeks after graduation, they began making their first Vena Cava collection.  Buhai and Mayock’s designs, known for their unique handmade prints, often draw inspiration from design movements from the past and a certain way of dressing they see amongst their group a friends. Vena Cava aims to design original and elegant clothing that cool girls want to wear. Their designs reference the past but always feel modern and classic, with unusual color combos and details. The LA born designers have been nominated twice for the coveted CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award.  In 2009, they were the runner’s up for the Fashion Finalist fund and have collaborated with brands such as Gap, Uniqlo, and Converse.  The Vena Cava collection is currently carried at Barneys New York along with other top specialty boutiques. For additional information on Vena Cava, please visit www.venacava.com.
